<Harm>

English version:

<Harm> is an interaktive algorithmic composition written for my <Harma> robot. I built this automaton between may 2000 and june 2001. For a performance of this composition one needs of course the <Harma> automat, but also a laptop PC running my <GMT> software with the executable <g_robots.exe>. I wrote the piece in the first weeks of june 2001 and it became the very first composition for this automaton.

The syntax of this piece makes use of my programming language developed to handle generalized forms of harmony and counterpoint in music. There is a clear soprano-part as well as a well defined bass-line. The harmony makes ample use of the unlimited polyphony of this automaton.

The harmonic constellation at any moment in the piece is limited in its upper region by a half-sine wave curve and at the bottom side by the absolute value of a half cosine, both functions calculated over the entire duration of the piece taken as a single period. . Soprano and bass-lines are caculated based on this diad harmony as counterpoint voices. The rythm of the many voices follows a global acceleration, but at the same time, depends on the harmonic properties of the constellation at any moment. The heavy beat in each new bar is always the most dissonant chordal structure within that bar.

The duration of the piece is six minutes.

A CD recording of this piece is available on the Logos Public Domain label LPD007 (<Automaton>). Also on this CD is a recording of a composition for Harma, soprano and luth accompaniment :<Hidden [C]harms>
